Yeah, well, last year's contest pretty much demonstrated that you don't win if you don't campaign ... which, obviously, is more or less why they have a contest in the first place.
Speaking of campaigning, I determined this afternoon that I could name all the candidates who came in second in US presidential elections back to 1940. (Though, admittedly, I was pretty much just guessing that both Stevenson and Dewey ran and came in second twice ... but then again, presumably I couldn't think of anyone else for those years in some large part because no one else actually ran.) I am pretty sure that I will not forget Wendell Willkie from now on. Alf Landon in '36, though, that's a tough one. But if I can remember him, then I got a gimme behind him with Herbert Hoover. Ayup.
