Beavers

Seeing as [livejournal.com profile] kest has been stirring up traffic over here, I figured I might as well do my part and give you some dripping wet beavers!

Well, these two are not so wet. Actually they look rather dry and fluffy. But they are about to get wet:

More or less every spring, the beavers move into our boathouse and stay there until they're evicted. I have accumulated a pretty impressive pile of beaver sticks from the boathouse over the last few years.

There were actually four beavers briefly staying there this year, mommy beaver and daddy beaver and two mostly full-grown beavers that I guess were last year's kits. Here's one of the smaller ones munching on some cedar shortly before I cleared them out:

Dunno whether this is one of the same beavers; I saw it cruising around the next day (over by Beaver Bay, so it probably is one of the same ones; the beavers head in that direction from our bay every evening and come back every morning) when I was out in the canoe, and wondered why its mouth was going--it looked like it was gasping--until I uploaded the pictures and saw that it had been eating something:
