Currently at Toronto Pearson: -6. High today: -3. Front lying across southern Ontario all day (and an odd little swirl of snow over the western end of the lake since this afternoon); it gets colder and colder as you go east: -6 at Pearson, -9 at Buttonville, -11 at Oshawa, -16 at Trenton, -19 at Kingston, -24 at Brockville. Too bad EC doesn't report conditions at Cornwall. -24 at Bancroft, too, which should have Wollaston good and frozen if it wasn't already, I guess.
We've just had the first December since 2001--i.e., since the year winter never came--in which the temperature failed to get down to -10 at Pearson. I'm going to assume that these are the only two Decembers in which that has ever been recorded to have happened, and that Pearson's low of -7.5 (on Dec. 30; that was the first time it had been colder at Pearson than it was in Bancroft the morning the pump froze, which was Oct. 13) for December 2012 beats out December 2001's -8.3 as the highest recorded December low. Just like in 2001/02, it did get down to -10 very briefly on January 1. Accuweather thinks Toronto won't get back down to -10 right through its 25-day forecast.
If I was into New Year's resolutions, I would say that this year I resolve to figure out what else to do with my life. I don't in fact resolve to do that, but I figure I'd probably better get around to it, and quite possibly I will. Last week I unsubscribed from all my philosophy-profession blog RSS feeds, so that's a start. I think I feel better already.
