The thing that always worries you about long winning streaks is how many you'll lose in a row when you come out of it. Everyone remembers the last seven of '87, but if not for the eight in a row after the 11-game winning streak in June, it never would've come to that.

So, that Gulf air keeps bubbling up. Tropical storms have quieted down, though it looks like Stan's going to show up in the next day or two. After that, just Tammy, Vince, and Wilma to go before it rolls over to Alpha--and there's still another good six weeks to go in hurricane season.

Barry Bonds has hit another home run tonight. If the Giants win, they'll be two games out.

Josh Towers's quality-start streak ended the other day. Four runs in seven innings against the Yankees. And a loss, to go 12-12. If the Yankees win the East this year, they'll have the Jays to thank.
