Today's Interesting Facts concern Miguel Batista, the Blue Jays' poet laureate, who is concluding his first full year as a closer. Among the 12 pitchers in the American League who have been closers the entire season, Miguel Batista has:
- the third-fewest saves
- the third-most blown saves (one behind the co-leaders)
- the most losses
- the second-highest ERA
- the highest WHIP
- the highest opponents' batting average
- the third-most walks
- the second-most home runs allowed

But other than that, he hasn't been too bad for his first year as a full-time closer.

Finished reading the other two Fraser pieces on Foucault (the latter at the park, where the llamas don't say "yark") and determined that she does not in fact use the word "cryptonormative" anywhere, the determination of which was the most important reason for my re-reading them. (So, Habermas uses it first on Foucault, and maybe he coined it. Someday the world wide internet will be powerful enough to get me to the bottom of that, if the superflu be not come.)

That notwithstanding, her pieces together, or any one of them individually, are wonderfully clear statements of the "normative foundations" problem, and it's really kind of amazing that so many since her have failed to understand the problem they took themselves to be addressing.
