Jays and juncos

Currently at Bancroft: 9. High today: 13. EC had it below freezing most of the night last night at Bancroft, down to -4, but the only frost I found around sunrise was a little patch on the dock; none on the plants. The pepper plants have even sprouted a few new peppers to replace the ones I pickled last week.
Speaking of pickles, the other day I did some of these--

--with most of the stubby cucumbers I had left on the dock (don't remember what kind they were exactly, but "early" something because I planted them late, so presumably not particularly pickling cucumbers in any way), and already yesterday they were pretty fantastic. I may never buy dill pickles again.
I'm not sure whether today was the first Jays playoff game I ever didn't see--I feel like there may have been one or two ALCS games in the old days in the afternoon when I was in school--but it was definitely the first one I chose not to see. (I will end up seeing most of them, presuming they don't get swept, but probably not tomorrow, either. I think I'm pretty much done putting myself in situations where I might have to fend for myself with most kinds of people who might want to talk to me.) Spent the afternoon trying to install a washing machine in the house in Marmora instead. (House in Marmora, what?) I am slowly becoming an expert sharkbite plumber, ayup. There was a whole flock of juncos behind the house. I think there have been a couple of grebes on the lake lately--if so, they're the first migrating water birds to show up, apart from Canada geese. The stray cat, Blackie, who started hanging around last summer, lived in a heated condo under the cottage all winter, and has slowly become a cottage kitty, finally demonstrated today that he has figured out the litter box. And so on and so on.
