Pecking for her bread
Aug. 4th, 2005 12:32 amNo moose. Rather, woodpeckers. Pileated woodpeckers. They are not kissing, but look as if they may be about to ... peck.
So, that's a relief, anyway. Tomorrow, Project Meno resumes, for a day, before the wackiness of Wedding Weekend begins.
High temp today, here: 30. Dewpoint then: 16. High dewpoint: 18.
High temp today in TO: 34. Dewpoint then: 17. High dewpoint: 21.
Suspicious-looking dewpoint fluctuations in TO today, too. Susan Hay says that we may have "humidex readings" again early next week. Fill-in weather gerbil on CBC tonight says the "system" that was in TO yesterday moved off, but the thunderstorms are being "boxed in" by a cold front. Also, the cold front is "moving up from the south". (Not that it can't happen; just that it isn't happening, as illustrated by her map.)
Earliest "H" tropical storm on record. Average date of formation of "H" storm: September 29th. Yikes.
Had a very nice Royal Gala, from Chile, today. This batch was small and scabby, so I wasn't holding out much hope. (The Golden Deliciouses, on the other hand, were strictly hopeless.) But it was sweet and crisp. Makes me wonder if the whole problem with the bland North American Royal Galas is that they grow them too big.
