Currently at Toronto Pearson: -15. High today: -11, at midnight again.

I was looking back through the EC records this morning to see what was the last day this cold at Pearson; that turned out to be not very interesting, since it was a pretty cold winter last year--last time it got below -16 was Feb. 11; last day with a mean around -14 or below, which today will probably be, was Jan. 31. But I did notice something interesting in the process: every day in January and February last year got below freezing. I figured that was probably unusual, so, yep, another stupid research project. Since 1940, every day in January and February has gotten below freezing at Pearson in the following years: 1966, 1972, 1978, 1982, 1987, and 2011. (This year is already out of the running; the low on Jan. 1 was 0.3.) Tweaking it to getting to freezing or below adds 1945, 1948, 1959, 1963, and 1970 ... assuming all those 0.0s are real.

Meanwhile, the Leafs are winning by four goals late in the third period after giving up both the first and sixth goals of the game. Go figure.
