Currently at Toronto Pearson: 4. High today: 10.

Went to the Jays game yesterday afternoon, and saw two things at a Jays game for the second time. The first was Ricky Romero having a shutout going through the first seven innings of his second start of the year, and then giving up an extra-base hit to the leadoff hitter in the eighth, who would come around to score. He has now done that two years in a row, and I've been there for both. Last year it was Alex Rios (after being booed and jeered with increasing volume through the game) breaking up a no-hitter with a leadoff home run in the 8th. This year it was Andy LaRoche leading of the 8th with a double, and eventually scoring on the second thing that I saw at a Jays game for the second time: a game-changing run-scoring strikeout. The first one of those I saw at Jays game was on July 26, 1990, when Mookie Wilson had a three-run strikeout against the Royals--probably the only three-run strikeout in the history of professional baseball.

Yesterday's run-scoring strikeout was pitched by Jason Frasor, who, after the departure of Vernon Wells, is now the designated Blue Jay the fans love to hate. Frasor came on in the 8th inning with a guy on third and one out. He struck out the first two batters he faced, which is, you know, about as well as you can do things. But the third strike on the first strikeout beat his rookie catcher five-hole, eventually resulting in a 1-0 lead turning into a 2-1 deficit, and so the asshats sitting behind me got to go on for the rest of the game about how much Frasor sucks and how much the manager must be kicking himself for bringing Frasor in.
